Remember that it is better to light candles for short periods of time rather than all night to maximize the scent and make them last longer. 2. Cut the wick to a length of 0.5 - 1 cm before lighting the candle to reduce soot. 3. If you are worried about damaging the surface where the candle is, put the lid under the glass to protect it from the heat if the candle burns all the way down.
