Jean-Francois Laporte was a renowned French perfumer who made significant contributions to the world of niche perfumery. He was born in France in 1948 and grew up with a passion for fragrances, which he pursued throughout his life.
Laporte began his career in the perfume industry in 1972 when he founded Sisley, which he later sold to Count Hubert D'Ornano. In 1976, he established L'Artisan Parfumeur, one of the first niche fragrance houses, where he made a name for himself by offering a new alternative to mass-market perfumes. He became known for using rare and unusual ingredients in his creations, such as celery, ginger, basil, bay leaf and osmanthus.
