1976, the expectation and extravagance of a brilliant era
1976 is a fragrance that symbolizes the juxtaposition of light and shadow in the spring of 1976 in King's Road, Chelsea. It represents a time of change and youthful energy at the end of the 20th century, where youth claimed their space in the city and turned London into a center of fashion, art, music and culture with its own style.
This fragrance is a combination of woody and oriental notes, designed to be shared and enjoyed by all. In the top notes, bergamot, lemon, black pepper and birch leaf are found, creating a vibrant and spicy opening that evokes the energy of youth.
At the heart of the fragrance, jasmine, juniper, vetiver and lavender blend, providing a floral and earthy depth that adds complexity and sophistication to the perfume.
Finally, in the base notes, patchouli, amber and musk combine to create a warm and sensual base that completes the fragrance with a long-lasting and comforting sensation.
1988 is part of Floris' "The Fragrance Journals" series, capturing the heart and soul of London across decades. It is a tribute to the city, its social fabric and its people, reflecting its ability to adapt to change while maintaining its distinctive identity.
Floris, family of British perfumers since 1730
The Spaniard Juan Famenias Floris left Menorca for Montpellier (France), the mecca of perfume in the 18th century, to learn the secrets of creating fragrances. From there, he embarked on his great adventure to London, buying 89 Jermyn Street where he established his barbering and comb manufacturing business in 1730. Juan Floris, nostalgic for the aromas of his home in Menorca, also begins to recreate those fragrances in the back room of No. 89, mixing essential oils just as he had learned in Montpellier. The mixture of ingredients, imported from Europe, was made individually for each client and the formulas were registered to be able to reproduce them to suit their needs. These few fragrances have remained in the heart of Floris until today as part of the Classic Collection.
With the entrepreneurial spirit of Juan Floris - in 1730 perfumes were a real novelty and Jermyn Street was the epicenter of the haute bourgeoisie in London - and with his innovative vision when creating personalized fragrances, the barbershop went transforming it into an elegant space for selling eau de toilette and exclusive accessories such as handmade combs imported from Menorca, shaving brushes, hat pins or toothbrushes.
Floris turned 285 in 2015. It is the oldest family of independent British perfumers in the world and the only perfume house designated for the Queen. Juan Floris' family is currently in the eighth and ninth generation. They proudly run the business from the same premises at 89 Jermyn Street, using their knowledge and drawing on the heritage of the art of fragrance from generation to generation, creating exquisite perfumes that stand the test of time and body care products. .
